Why He Unplugged: After dealing with potentially life-threatening brain surgery, Dom decided to abandon his life in the U.K. and follow his heart to Central America, a goal he'd had since the age of 18.
How He Unplugged: At first, Dom's intention was simply to open a bar. After traveling widely throughout Central America and meeting his future wife, Doreen, the couple began a series of projects working with indigenous children in Guatemala, Doreen's country of origin.
Best Experience: "Seeing the results from our educational projects, and of course... marrying Doreen!"
Worst Experience: "A project that fails."
Lessons Learned: "The Developed World has a lot to learn from the Developing World in social issues…the 'First World' has moved on too fast, leaving in its wake its culture, history and the value of family in the deranged search for money. Family values as well as a sense of reality are alive and kicking in the 'Third World'."
